Aliens, Enemies and Secrets…Oh my!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I must admit that I was very skeptical when this book was recommended to me….Aliens? Really?

My favorite genre is fantasy, closely followed by sci-fi, so there is no reason why this book would not appeal to me.  But I think I am just too used to reading about vampires and werewolves that for some reason aliens sounded far-fetched to me.  Go figure!

Contrary to my initial reaction, this book was awesome!  I sat and finished the second half of the book in one sitting because I could not put it down.  There are also 4 books in this series currently, so I cannot wait to pick up #2!  I loved the characters witty banter and complex relationship.  It was so refreshing to see a teen book where the main character did not immediately fall in love with a boy that she barely knew!  Below is a little teaser of the storyline to get you hooked: Continue reading “Aliens, Enemies and Secrets…Oh my!”

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver is the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Fall Series.  I was excited when I started reading this series because 1.) Maggie Stiefvater is a local author, I got to meet her, get her autograph and a picture with her and she is awesome2.) It is a novel about werewolves and fantasy novels are right up my alley; I love to get out of the realm of everyday life and read about something fantastical! Red Heart Tattoo by Lurlene McDaniel

This broaches a tough subject….school bombings.

The book starts with the premise of the bombing and tells you that 9 people die, 15 are critically injured, 22 suffer less sever injuries and 1 is blinded.

As the story begins, you follow a few young adults attending Edison High.  It is before the bombing and you get to know these students; who is the jock, the student council president, the cheerleader and the trouble maker.  As you get to know these characters and grow attached to them, it is always in the back of your mind that the bomb could be going off soon.  This fact hangs over you for most of the book and makes it a really interesting read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this thin, quick read.  If you can handel this tough topic, pick up this book and let us know what you think!

Rule Breaker: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Halfway to the Grave, A Night Huntress Novel – Book 1

I am in love with this series!  It has a strong female lead, Cat Crawfield, half-vampire who is used to taking care of herself.  She is on a mission to kill every vampire she meets.  Her goal is to avenge her mother whose life was ruined by Cat’s vampire father.  Cat is hoping that one day, the vampire she kills will be her father and she will be able to dish some pay-back.  Her plans go south after she is captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, who she thought was going to be her next victim…What does the future hold for Cat?

Snag this great book to find out!  Be ready for action, romance, fantasy and great characters.

There are 11 books in this series so far and many spin-off series that follow the adventures of some of the other characters in the series 🙂
