What's Happening – The Answers!

You’ve likely already heard that we at Teen Book Battles are looking for a few good bloggers.

You’re also probably (humor me a little, here – I don’t get out much) in a frenzy of curiousity or suspense about the list of titles posted here a week or so ago.

What do all these titles have in common?

“The Nightmare Affair.”

“This Song Will Save Your Life.”

“Steelheart.”

“The Rithmatist.”

“This is What Happy Looks Like.”

“Winger.”

“A Midsummer Night’s Scream.”

“Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.”

“In The Shadow of Blackbirds.”

“The 5th Wave.”

“Of Triton.”

“Siege and Storm.”

“Love In The Time Of Global Warming.”

“The Testing.”

“The Eye of Minds.”

“Earth Girl.”

“The Clockwork Scarab.”

“Maybe I Will.”

“The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die.”

Splintered.”

“Teardrop.”

“Openly Straight.”

“Monument 14: Sky On Fire.” .

“Six Months Later.”

“Eleanor & Park.”

Well, I’ll tell you.

They are all nominees for the YALSA Top Ten Teen books of 2014.

Every year, the Young Adult Library Services Association gathers input from teens at libraries across the US, and creates a list of 25 nominees.   “Readers ages twelve to eighteen will vote online between August 15 and Teen Read Week at www.ala.org/yalsa/reads4teens; the winners will be announced the week after Teen Read Week.”

And this year Chesapeake Public Library’s Greenbrier Branch has been chosen to receive a copy of each of the nominated titles!  YAY!

What does this mean for you?  Well, we’ll be hosting an event during Teen Read Week in October, and each of the nominated titles will be showcased in a presentation created by you, the readers.  Presentations can take any form you like – poster, artwork, powerpoint, skit, booktalk, music video. . . be as creative and daring as you want!  We’ll have 3 minutes for each book and then everyone can vote in our own Chesapeake Only polling.  It’s going to be very interesting to see what we choose compared to what teens nation-wide choose.  Ask at the Greenbrier Branch for more details about how you can present a book.  Remember, there are only 25 titles, so signups will go fast!

Also going fast – signups to BLOG the BOOKS!  We need a blog entry for each of these titles, and since this is Teens Top Ten, we want TEEN bloggers!  Again, the Greenbrier Branch has information about this, but ask at any branch.

All the new titles will be available at Greenbrier no later than July 10th.  Watch for the special display.

Can’t wait to hear from you!
