A Touch of Scarlet
Eve Marie Mont
This is a really tough title to blog – there’s a lot going on here. But that’s a good thing.
All in one winning read, this title has romance, self-discovery, humor, friendships, great literature, paranormal experiences, and a full round of seasons in the beauty of New England. Oh, and it has some mean girls, a private boarding school, and lots of running.
Well it sort of should be, but it’s not. I wound up finishing this in one (long) sitting, and felt very glad for the read.
The cover blurb makes this book sound like it’s all about Emma slipping in and out of the world of The Scarlet Letter, but there’s much more to it than that. There’s her long distance boyfriend, a roommate who is trying to figure out who she is, and painful memories from childhood that may be more dangerous that just dreams.
What makes it so good? Even with all the various threads running through the plot, you never feel lost reading it. All of the storylines still have Emma at the center, and all of them move at realistic and interesting pace. The characters are complicated enough to be real, but still easy to like. And the setting will have you longing for Massachusetts when you’re done reading.
