With ALL the Sherlock adaptations out in movies and on TV (these just being a few)….
Sherlock Holmes, movie
Elementary, CBS series
Sherlock, BBC series
I decided to read a few of the original stories.
This book offers twelve Sherlock Holmes short stories. It does take you a moment to get use to the Victorian English language sentence structure but in no time you will be wrapped up in the stories. A number of the stories were new to me, such as, The Man with the Twisted Lip, The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb, or The Boscombe Valley Mystery.
My favorite was The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet it involves a banker holding as collateral a client’s valuable coronet (a small crown) locked in an area of his home. But alas, the coronet is broken and a piece of it with 3 beryl gems in it are stolen. The banker’s son is arrested because he was caught, by his father, with the broken coronet, but he is not the thief. I love twist endings!
