I was searching for the perfect book and thanks to a new friend at the library I found it!  The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan is a great story that has it all; friends, family, love, plus secrets and the stress of living in a world that is coming undone.

Mary lives in an isolated village surrounded by fences in a deep dark forest inhabited by flesh-hungry corpses.  As far as she knows, they are the only people in the world! When Mary was young her mother told stories about the ocean and the world outside the fences.  Mary loved those stories and as she grew older she felt a need to see the ocean her mother so loved.  This would mean leaving her village, friends and loved ones for a world she has never seen.  She would have to enter The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

When the village is attacked by the Unconsecrated Mary has no choice. She must enter the Forest that she has been taught to fear by the Sisterhood without the protection of the Guardians. Does the Forest go on forever?  Are there other people in the world? If not what happened to them and how did the Unconsecrated come to be?

I listened to this book on CD and enjoyed the reading by Vane Millon.  The second book in this series, The Dead Tossed Waves is already on my reading list!

  1. This is one of my favorite books! It is one of the first zombie books I ever read. When I read these books I got lost in the author’s writing style. She has such vivid discriptions, I almost felt like I was reading poetry! Of course it was a very grim poetry indeed.
